Sudbury Rowing Club held its 134th International Regatta last weekend at Friars Meadow in Sudbury. The event saw around 2000 spectators coming from all over the UK to support various rowing teams and enjoy the live music and great food and drink on offer.
The event was based around the familiar 650m rowing course that is raced upstream from a stake boat start. Several categories were raced on the day, from juniors, seniors and masters to women only and mixed boat races. The race that was as highly anticipated as ever was the Sprint Eights, where athletes race for hip-flask prizes, along a shortened 350m course, on the last straight section of the river.
Live music was provided by local bands including “The Bijoux Toots”, a six-piece ukulele band who have also played at various festivals, concerts and pubs across the region.
We supported the event by designing the programme. It provided spectators with information about the history of the boat races, the race order and the rules involved.
“It's great to be able to support an event that is so well-established and has such deep heritage here in Sudbury”, said Paul Mackman, Managing Director of Mackman.
