Emil Pitts joined Mackman’s technical team in October 2011. His expertise as a designer and web developer mean that he’s perfectly placed to support the rest of the team in their work designing and implementing digital projects.
What’s your working background?
Having studied Digital Media at Southampton Solent University, I soon began work with a print design company based in Sudbury. I’ve always been interested in building websites, and started tinkering around with web development around 14 years ago before I started studying the subject at University. I really enjoyed developing my portfolio of skills at a print design company in Sudbury and came to Mackman to make better use, and develop, of my passion for all things digital. Before this, I worked for a chartered surveyor based in Long Melford. In this role I managed all the appointments, liaised with the various banks, and worked alongside solicitors. It was a great experience as I soon learnt the value of keeping everything organised!
Describe your role at Mackman.
As the Studio Technician, I’m the frontline level of support for all of our clients. I help with any day to day technical problems they may have and ensure that everything is working as it should be. I also move between print and digital work depending on which team needs my input. I’ve had previous experience producing videos, and have started doing this at Mackman, providing WordPress training videos for our clients. It’s my voice you can hear on this video!
How would you describe Mackman?
It’s such a friendly organisation, filled with people who are really passionate about what they do. I’m really enjoying developing my technical skills, and it’s great to be working in an environment that encourages self-progression. I’ve known Luke, our Web Developer, for years now (we met down the pub through mutual friends) and he’s always had nice things to say about the team…and he was right!
How do you like the new office?
It’s really nice – very light and spacious. Definitely different to other offices I’ve worked in!
How would your colleagues describe you?
That’s a tricky one. Hardworking and precise I hope…but maybe a little grumpy first thing in the morning.
If you weren’t working in this field, what else would you like to do?
Well, I’m really into my music – so it would have to be being an engineer in a music studio. I’ve been making drum and bass music for a long time, having got into it in my teens with my Dad.
What might we catch you up to on the days you’re not at Mackman?
When I’m not at work, I’m most likely to be found in my studio at home. It’s a great room, and is perfect for making my music – surrounded by a big computer, precise monitor speakers, keyboards and drum machines. I also DJ from time to time, so I also like to play around with my records and decks too. If I’m not in the studio, I might be found playing with my cat Picard…I’m a bit of a Star Trek fan.
What are your future goals?
I’d love to go on tour with my music – the opportunity to visit different countries on tour would be amazing.
