We are pleased to be involved in the auction of the beautiful large Giraffes that are currently occupying Colchester’s streets, parks and local spaces. The sculptures, which include 82 1.3m high giraffes, 29 2.5m giraffes and 1 large 7.5m giraffe were created in order to celebrate Colchester Zoo’s 50th anniversary and fund raise for the Zoo’s charity, ‘Action for the Wild’.
The project had been developed through Stand Tall in partnership with Wild in Art, an experienced arts, events and education company which involve the likes of artists such as Anne Schwegmann and Alison Burcher. Local community groups, businesses, schools and celebrities were also involved in the decoration of some of the giraffes including, Colchester Cooper Mini team, Colchester Primary Schools and Scout groups, Sir David Attenborough and wildlife TV presenter, Michaela Strachan. This inspiring public art event started on Sunday June 2nd and will continue for 12 weeks until Monday 26th August.
The art-rich sculptures will be auctioned off at the end of September at Reeman Dansie's Auction. Mackman are currently supporting Reeman Dansie's in the creation and maintenance of the online catalogue displaying the 29, 2.5m giraffes for sale.
James, our Technical Lead who is currently working on the catalogue says, ‘We’ve been maintaining Reeman Dansie’s website for a several years and are delighted to work with them on this usual, high profile sale. It is satisfying to know that the funds from the giraffes will go to a worthy cause, supporting the conservation work of Colchester Zoo.’
