As we approach our 20th anniversary, Mackman Group is proud to announce that we are an accredited Living Wage Employer following an assessment by the Living Wage Foundation. Along with three other Sudbury-based businesses, we are the only independent employers in the town to be accredited, demonstrating our commitment to being an ethical business and an employer of choice.
The real living wage is an independent assessment of the minimum hourly rate that people should be paid to work based on the actual cost of living, and it is higher than other UK wage rates. Unlike the Government’s minimum wage or National Living Wage, the real living wage is a voluntary decision employers make so they can pay their employees more, and we are proud to have joined thousands of other companies in making that important decision.
As we are a people-focused business, it is vital that we respect our workforce and ensure they earn a wage they can comfortably live on. We sell time and expertise, and without the dedicated people in our teams, we cannot do that effectively.
As one of 9,000 employers in the UK dedicated to paying the real living wage, we understand that it has never been more important to pay employees fairly, particularly at this time of crisis surrounding the cost of living. According to research conducted by the Office for National Statistics, 77% of people 16 and over report feeling ‘very or somewhat worried about the rising cost of living’. With our recent accreditation, we aim to mitigate those concerns for our workforce by guaranteeing them accurate and suitable pay.
Achieving this accreditation does not change the way we work but it provides a secure working environment for Mackman staff to thrive and enjoy a healthy work-life balance. We are also extremely pleased that this accreditation not only benefits our direct staff, but it ensures third-party workers are guaranteed a real living wage.
