Project Overview

Nick Bramer approached Mackman with a vision for a new direction for the Hope & Anchor. The goal was to refresh the brand with a more visual and premium feel, while preserving the heritage of the original identity.

The new brand architecture needed to reflect and differentiate between the three distinct areas of the business, each with their own adapted branding.

In response to the creative brief, Mackman developed a multi-faceted brand identity for the Hope & Anchor and its supporting areas of business.

Our aim was to craft a welcoming and approachable brand with undertones of luxury and a strong sense of place, rooted in the rich character of the location.

To inform the creative direction, we conducted a series of audits, audience segmentation exercises, and customer journey mapping. These strategic insights ensured that every element of the new identity would resonate with the target audience and reflect the core values of the business.

The result was a multi-layered brand identity system covering the Hope & Anchor and its sub-brands. We delivered a cohesive brand toolkit featuring versatile logo variants, a rich and emotive colour palette, and clearly defined typography. Each of the sub-brands—The Pavilion and The Riverside—was given a tailored visual identity, designed to complement the overarching brand while expressing its own distinct purpose.

To bring the brand into the physical environment, we created spatial branding concepts including signage and wayfinding. The identity was also extended across digital platforms, with UI-focused development to ensure the brand translated seamlessly online.

“This project was a real opportunity to take a well-loved local venue and elevate it into a destination brand, without losing its authenticity. The result is a visual system that reflects its charm, character, and quality while allowing each offering to shine in its own right.”
